Review : Supa Chupa Scoopa by Steve Rowe

Product description: I’m sure you always wanted to do magic with lollipop, they’re something everybody is aware of, they look natural and kids love them! Steve is known for creating magic with sweets, like chocolate bars, tic tac, lollipops and “organic” stuff. Here, a card is selected, you introduce a lollipop, they have their card in their hands, you smash the card (or they smash) with the lollipop and suddenly, the card is in the sticker on the lollipop. When they turn the card around, it has the Chupa Chups logo printed on it, where the index was before. It’s easy to do, and you have nothing to carry around except a gimmicked card and the special lollipop. Let’s find out if this is worth your money.

Price and where to buy it: This is sold at $20 and you can find it here : www.magicdream.fr.

What you get: You get a plastic bag, with a printed paper in it, nothing fancy but it does the job. Inside, you’ll find several gimmicks, 12 stickers for your lollipop with the Chupa Chups logo and one single Bicycle card with the Chupa Chups logo printed on it. The workings of the tricks are not complicated, but it’s simple to understand and easy to do. There is a online video so you can have an idea of what to do with the props but I think it’s pretty self-explanatory if you have basic sleights. It’s not expensive, it’s something easy to do, I don’t think you’ll be surprised with what you get, if you like the teaser, you’ll like what you have.

The pros and the cons: Here is the core of my review, let's begin with the cons, as I will usually be doing, I prefer to keep the good things for the end.

THE CONS:

  • This won’t excite many magicians who are looking for new effects, new toys and gimmicks to play with.

  • You are provided with only one bicycle card so it will always be the same card, which is kind of annoying when you do table hopping or cocktail.

THE PROS:

  • This is a very nice card reveal, force and reveal a card is a standard thing to do when you’re a magician. This is good for everyone, including adults and children.

  • I like how he introduces the lollipop, he gives it a twist and it’s much more interesting than just take out a lollipop out of your pocket and says “Here it is”.

  • It’s really easy to do and it doesn’t take much pocket space, you just have to carry around a lollipop and the gimmicked card in your deck.

  • You could give the lollipop away but since the wrapper is “gimmicked”, I would switch it for a regular one first before giving it. No heat on the candy and you can do this trick again without having to gimmick multiple wrappers (since you get “only” 12 with this).

  • You can make them do the magic which is very strong I think, they can hold the lollipop and make the logo transfer to the card, you do nothing. Magic is much more efficient when the spectator is doing everything.

Overall rating: This is a nice little item, it’s simple and efficient, you don’t receive high tech gimmick but they do the job, not my cup of tea but definitely good, 3/4 hearts.

As for the difficulty level, force, top change or double lift and you’re good to go, basics sleights in my minds so let’s go for 2/5 stars.

Similar products: With lollipop, you have Lolli Hero which is cool but quite different too. Steve Rowe is known for this kind of tricks so I highly recommend you to check his brand of products.
