Review : Rebel Wallet (+ Note) by Secret Tannery

Product description: Card to wallet is a standard among magicians, it’s a staple in the repertoire of many of us. I’ve used the JOL for the past few years and while it’s doing its job perfectly fine, I find it a bit big and not very esthetical. Gerard Kearney developed his own wallet which could do the card to wallet and the card to envelope inside a wallet, and that can be used as an everyday wallet. He’s got 2 products, the Rebel Wallet and the Rebel note (which is basically the Rebel Wallet but a bit bigger and with a bill compartment). I’ll talk about those 2 wallets as one since they work with the same principle.

Price and where to buy it: This is sold at 100€ (each wallet) and you can find it on Gerard Kearney website : https://www.secrettannery.com. And you have 20% off when you enter the code “lesavis20”.

What you get: I love the packaging on this one, you don’t get any box but the wallet wrapped in brown kraft paper with the Secret Tannery logo on it, it looks very good. Attached with cotton thread, you have a small card with the link and the password so you can watch the instructional video. The video is in English and really well made, you feel why Gerard put out a new wallet and he definitely is a professional, his routines are well constructed. You get 10 medium Bonsalope, 10 slides and finally the wallet made out of smooth black leather with a blue stitching, I love the look of it! I don’t use the slides provided since I use my business card to accomplish the move. Overall, this is a great product that feels quality and you know what you pay for.

The pros and the cons: Here is the core of my review, let's begin with the cons, as I will usually be doing, I prefer to keep the good things for the end.

THE CONS:

  • Well, this is a con and a pro, this wallet only does one thing which is the card to wallet/envelope. So don’t expect doing mentalism or peeks with it.

  • If you use envelope, you’ll need to carry several ones with you if you want to do it over and over.

THE PROS:

  • This wallet only does the card to wallet/envelope but it does it perfectly well. So I prefer to have only one function to my wallet but being able to do it perfectly.

  • The slides are unnecessary if you use your business card. Therefore, you can put it in the envelope and people can have it with their signed card.

  • It can be used as a real everyday wallet without any problem, I like the note a bit better because of the bill compartment. A French ID and driving license will fit inside without any problem.

  • It is really an elegant looking wallet, it’s small and thin, everything that the JOL Small Plus Wallet isn’t.

  • It’s not so expensive compared to other products on the market so the price is an important factor.

Overall rating: I will use the Rebel Note from now, I’ll get rid of my JOL because I wasn’t using much the other feature and it felt a bit bulky in my pocket, 4/4 hearts.

As for the difficulty level, a palm and a control is all you need, putting the card in the wallet is dead easy, 2/5 stars.

Similar products: I think the closest to this one would be the Real Man Wallet or the Small Plus Wallet.
