Product description : Band, nail and boon writer have been around for ages, they’re all doing the same thing which is secretly write an information on a piece of paper without anything in your hand and without letting the spectator know. But they were all with pencil, or a weird writing. The Epic Writer is the first, according to Magic World, ballpoint pen writer ! Which, in my opinion, is stronger and more convenient than pencil, but that’s just me. Is it worth the price ? Let’s find out !
Price and where to buy it : This is sold at $19.95 and you can find it in nearly every Murphy's magic « partner » shop !
What you get : You get a very small cardboard box, it’s really well made with a 3D feel and some nice printing, the packaging is actually very nice ! Inside, you will find the link so you can watch the explanations online, they’re well made, well shot and you learn ideas, subtleties and ways of handling the gimmick. You get some zots, so you can stick them on the Epic Writer so your thumb can stick to it. You get a magnet, the writer is made out of metal so it’s attracted by magnets which is a convenient thing if you want to ditch it. And finally, the actual gimmick, it’s pink/skin color, very small and easy to use, you’re provided with 2 pens from which you can take the lead to put into your gimmick. Overall, it’s not expensive and should last a long time, I’m pretty happy with it !
The pros and the cons : Here is the core of my review, let's begin with the cons, as I will usually be doing, I prefer to keep the good things for the end.
THE CONS :
[if !supportLists]– [endif]It may be a little pricy for what you get but the refills are inexpensive, they did a lot of research in order to make the gimmick.
[if !supportLists]– [endif]Since it’s a ballpoint pen, if you put it in your pocket, it may “write” by itself and therefore, ruin your clothes, when a pencil lead would not write “on its own”.
[if !supportLists]– [endif]You have to cover the lead if you don’t use for a few weeks because it will dry if you don’t do that.
THE PROS :
[if !supportLists]– [endif]It’s very small which means it can easily be concealed behind your thumb ! I don’t like the zots option, I do prefer putting a small piece of double sided tape so I have a better grip on it.
[if !supportLists]– [endif]It’s a ballpoint pen ! I do find it to be stronger than a regular pencil, in my mind, you can remove the pencil lead and hide it easily when it’s harder with a ballpoint.
[if !supportLists]– [endif]It’s quite easy to write with it, even if it’s not natural at first, you get the knack quickly and you start having a clear writing.
[if !supportLists]– [endif]It’s not expensive at all, I said that some people may find it expensive compare to what the gimmick actually is but for me, this is a very good price for a thumb writer.
[if !supportLists]– [endif]There is no reset at all, you just take another business card or a small post it note and you’re ready to go !
[if !supportLists]– [endif]The refills are inexpensive, you just have to find a suitable pen or you can order them from Magic World website, they’re like $0.5 or something like that which is a bargain considering how long a lead will last.
[if !supportLists]– [endif]Because the gimmick is made out of metal, it’s really easy to ditch if you have a magnet on you and easy to carry around which is a cool thing because it’s really small and you would lose it if it was not magnetic.
- You get a very detailed video, which lasts for 1.5 hour with loads of ideas !
Overall rating : I do like the look of it, a lot, I do nail writer routine, with a band writer from Vernet, I don’t know yet if I will switch for this but it works well and does the job, 3.5/4 hearts.
As for the difficulty level, it’s like every nail writer, you have to learn how to use it but it’s not hard at all, I would say 2/5 stars.
Similar products : They’re million nail writer out there, my favourite one so far is the band writer by Vernet !
