Review : Deck Switch by Astor

Product description : Astor is a very nice creator, quite prolific, with ok and good products. This one is quite interesting, it’s a full routine with a color changing box then with the deck inside, with a selected cards which changes color too ! It’s a nice little routine, all self contained and with several wow moments ! Let’s find out if it’s worth it or not.

Price and where to buy it : This is sold at $55 and you can find it in nearly every Murphy's magic « partner » shop !

What you get : You get a very nice box, the usual packaging with Astor which takes care of everything when it comes to his trick. Inside, you will find a link for the explanation video, it’s not the best, not a “Murphys” kind of video but it does the job, you learn everything you need to know. You do get the gimmick which already handmade and you can practice with it right out of the box ! This is a nice thing that Astor provide an already made gimmick. The gimmick is really well made and should last a very long time if you take care of it. You do also get the cards needed in order to perform the routine with the pack of cards. So even if the price is a little bit high, you do get a nicely made gimmick, all the cards, so you can perform this right out of the box. Not disappointed with what I received

The pros and the cons : Here is the core of my review, let's begin with the cons, as I will usually be doing, I prefer to keep the good things for the end.

THE CONS :

[if !supportLists]– [endif]I must agree this is a little bit expensive, even if you get everything you need, $55 is quite a high price.

[if !supportLists]– [endif]The gimmick isn’t 100% invisible, you have to be careful about the lightning.

[if !supportLists]– [endif]It’s a one trick only deck and case so you have to carry this deck and this case in order to perform this trick and you can’t do anything else with them.

THE PROS :

[if !supportLists]– [endif]It’s really visual, you get a really nice moment at the beginning when you turn the card case from blue to red.

[if !supportLists]– [endif]There is a full routine based on the color changing plot, it’s cool to see he doesn’t just include a gimmicked card case but also a trick to do with the deck in itself.

[if !supportLists]– [endif]You get the gimmick handmade, ready out of the box, for the price, it’s normal but nowadays, it’s rare to see tricks which are provided with full and functional gimmick.

[if !supportLists]– [endif]There is nothing to break, no elastic or latex, the gimmick is simple in its working but works very well, you just have to get the knack.

[if !supportLists]– [endif]The reset is almost instant, you just put the cards back into the case and with a little move, you’re ready to go again !

[if !supportLists]– [endif]It’s really easy to do, you must know the principle used in the deck of card and you should also know that it is very easy to handle.

[if !supportLists]– [endif]The gimmick is really well made, even if it’s not invisible, it will do the job in most situations.

Overall rating : It’s a cool and fun gimmick, the routine is powerful on the spectators, but I wouldn’t carry another gimmicked deck with me, still a great trick, 3/4 hearts.

As for the difficulty level, the knack with the color changing box will be the hardest part but apart from that, it’s really easy to do, I would say 2/5 stars.

Similar products : For the color changing cardbox, there is a lot of options on the market, unfortunately, I don’t own any of them.
