Review : Colors by Allias

Product description : Another release from Marchand de Trucs which is very good when it comes to publishing tricks. This one is a little different but as good as the others, you show a color chart (or a pantone, I don't know which one describe better the object) to the audience, showing them all the colors are different. They are 4 hue per sheet, spectator randomly selects a sheet and one of the 4 hue on it. You can clearly spread the sheets before and after to show that each is different. You then remove a prediction from your wallet, it's the exact same sheet with a cross on the color the spectator chose. It's very powerful and it uses a common object, but is it any good ? Let's find out !

Price and where to buy it : This is sold at around $55 (49€) and you can find it in the “Marchand de truc” shop in France. Maybe this will be sold through Murphy's later.

What you get : I love the packaging of this, the box is really well made, sturdy and the colours (pun intended) are very cool ! Inside, you’ll find a DVD, I think it’s a great idea to provide a DVD instead of a streaming video, I like the feel of putting the DVD in my PC. The DVD is great and shows you the history behind the gimmick, the first prototypes, as well as the routine and ways for the reveal. You’ll get the main gimmick, which looks like a real pantone, I don’t think you would find anything awkward about it ! It’s small enough to be kept in your pocket, it makes this a real worker. The quality of the object is amazing, there are 2 principles built in it so everything looks fair and clean. You also get some “gimmicks” for the reveal, so the spectator can have a free choice on the sheet he selected (4 choices). Overall, I really like the object, it’s well made and works perfectly ! You can’t go wrong with this trick.

The pros and the cons : Here is the core of my review, let's begin with the cons, as I will usually be doing, I prefer to keep the good things for the end.

THE CONS :

[if !supportLists]– [endif]It may feel a little awkward to carry this item with you. It’s not a big deal because you don’t have to justify the fact you’re using such prop.

[if !supportLists]– [endif]The outcome will be roughly the same every time so you have to be careful about not doing this twice or at 2 tables too close from each other.

THE PROS :

[if !supportLists]– [endif]This is new, this is different ! No cards, no coins, the routine is well constructed, this is very very good.

[if !supportLists]– [endif]Everybody has seen this object at least once, whether it’s in a shop to decide on a paint color, or you may have one at home. So people can relate to it which reduce the probability of the spectators wanting to examine the pantone.

[if !supportLists]– [endif]There are 2 principles, well known among magicians, built in the pantone so that you can show all the sheets very freely and still let the spectator choose “any” sheet (there are 2 ways of doing that).

[if !supportLists]– [endif]The material is handmade and the quality is perfect, this should last a long time, if you take care of it.

[if !supportLists]– [endif]I think about a very cool routine to do with it, explain you had hard time deciding on the color of the walls in your kitchen. You show the pantone, let them select a color and then, you pull a picture of your wife holding a can of paint which is the same color and maybe a little text “I told you, I’m ALWAYS right” (you can even do a little video of your wife).

[if !supportLists]– [endif]You can present it the way you like, serious or a little bit funnier, this opens quite a few paths for your presentation.

Overall rating : I like this a lot, I do think the routine has a big potential, I have to work a little bit more on it but this is something I will use ! 4/4 hearts.

As for the difficulty level, no manipulation needed, it’s really easy to do, I would say 2/5 stars.

Similar products : This is something new and fresh, I can’t think about something similar.
