Review : Rejoined by João Miranda and Julio Montoro

Product description : anooooooooother TnR ! Well, this is maybe the expression you had when you saw the advertisement for Rejoined but trust me, this is not the same TnR, it has a plot twist, pun intented. The effect is very simple, a card is chosen, spectator signs one half of the back, magician does the same on the other half, card is torn in half. You then restore the cards by the clean ends and with a piece backward ! You have to see it to believe it, it's very visual !

Price and where to buy it : This is sold at $42 and you can find it in João website : http://www.joaomiranda.com/.

What you get : You get a small cardboard box, I do like the way it is packed, the design is cool, and the box looks good too. Inside, you get a small card with a link to watch a Youtube explanation video, it's one of the first time I've seen this kind of thing for the explanations. Explanations are well done, straight to camera and you learn everything you need. Also in the box, you can find 60 special printed cards that are meant to be used for this effect, you will need 1 for each performance so you have more than enough for years ! (well, maybe not because this trick is so cool you want to do it over and over again) The cards are not bicycle, you can tell by touching them but if you only look at them, they do look like bicycle playing cards. Overall, for 39€ or $42 dollars, I'm very happy with what I received.

The pros and the cons : Here is the core of my review, let's begin with the cons, as I will usually be doing, I prefer to keep the good things for the end.

THE CONS :

  • You have to carry gimmicks with you if you want to do this several times. I wouldn't let them in a deck, you wouldn't feel confortable doing your regular routine.

  • The cards are not bicycle, but I don't think a spectator would notice the difference.

  • You will need to buy refills if you want to do the trick more than 60 times, I think refills can be bought from João website or if you contact him directly.

THE PROS :

  • I do like the reverse thinking of this trick, which has been done in a similar way before, but here, you're left with an impossible souvenir so people can keep it and remember the moment of magic.

  • Even if the cards are not bicycle quality, nobody will ever notice it and it's clearly not a problem.

  • It's highly visual, the moment you restore the card is very nice because you can show your both hands empty ! The clean up is very easy too.

  • To reset, just put another gimmicked card in your deck and you're ready to go.

  • They provided you with different gimmicked cards so you won't only do this trick with King of Spades for example, you get 4 different cards, 15 of each so you can do this trick at the next table without tearing the same card !

  • It's quite cheap considering the amount you get, each performance will cost you 0.65€ or $0.70.

  • It's a great present to give away, you can staple it to your business cards so it's a motivation for your audience to keep it !

Overall rating : I can see myself using it, I do love the moment of magic when you restore it and the impossible souvenir you leave, 4/4 hearts.

As for the difficulty level, there is little to do but still, you have to do it right for the trick to be convincing, 2/5 stars.

Similar products : if you look at T2P by Shawn Farquar, which I love and carry with me at all time, you can get the same kind of effect. Also, Torn Twisted and Restored by Stephen Leathwaith, One Twist Two Fusion by the amazing Axel Hecklau
