Review : FigMENt by Tom Mullenger

Product description : This is another card revelation, I do like and don't like this kind of routine because, as far as gimmicked card revelation are concerned, you need to carry the gimmicks with you and it fills quite quickly your pocket. Here, you show a little lego man, place it in the hand of the spectator. You let the spectator choose 2 cards then place them back into the deck or keep them on the table. When they open their hands, they find a crystal clear lego figurine with the corner of the first card sealed inside ! You place the crystal lego in their hand again and snap your finger, when they turn it over, the corner sealed inside is now the second card ! An amazing transformation which will leave them speachless.

Price and where to buy it : This is sold at $39.95 and you can find it in nearly every Murphy's magic « partner » shop !

What you get : You get a small cardboard box with inside the link for the explanation video. The video is well done, I think the trick in itself is very easy to understand when you look at the props, it's not hard to do. You also get 3 lego figurines, a regular one, and two crystal ones with a corner sealed inside. The crystal ones are not articulated as the regular one but they do look like a real lego figurine. The quality is quite good, I think they made them by injecting plasting si there are some air bubbles inside but it's not that a big deal. I'm really happy with what I received, great quality and lovely packaging.

The pros and the cons : Here is the core of my review, let's begin with the cons, as I will usually be doing, I prefer to keep the good things for the end.

THE CONS :

  • As I said, the crystal lego are not articulated and there are some air bubbles inside.

THE PROS :

  • I love the routine, it's different, it's fresh and I do think there is a lot of room for the presentation. Since the tour is almost self working, you can completely focus on your presentation, giving a “life” to the figurine, telling it was your best toy as a child !

  • Even though the crystal figurines are not exactly like lego ones, they do look like ones, meaning the spectator won't feel the difference when you put them in their hands.

  • There is a double effect here, the first one is the figurine turning from normal to crystal. Then, the corner trapped inside and the corner changing value inside their own hand. I do like how the routine builds up stronger and stronger.

  • I do like the fact that a small “hat” is provided with the figurine, it will give a real added value to your switches, I really like this small but strong idea.

  • You don't need any “gimmick” in play in your deck, meaning you can even use a borrowed deck if you want to. The fact 2 crystal figurines are provided means that you can make your own routines if you want to !

Overall rating : I really like this routine, it's new, fesh and exciting, with props that are not common, 4/4 hearts.

As for the difficulty level, I do think there is a little bit of work before doing it smoothly, 2/5 stars.

Similar products : I do not know any trick which are similar, this is 100% new for me.
