Review : The One 2.0 by Anthony Stan

Product description : This is a card to impossible location without boxes, nor gimmicks. Well, there is a version with a gimmick but the main idea behind this concept is being able to switch 1 folded card for another ! Let's go !

Price and where to buy it : This is sold at $24.95 and you can get from any partner of Murphy's Magic !

What you get : You get a thin DVD case with the gimmicks inside (well, don't expect that much from the gimmicks, you would be disappointed) as well as the DVD. DVD is very well shot, you get to learn various routines with this technique, with or without gimmick. The whole thing is pretty good considering the price, I think it's fair priced by the way.

The pros and the cons : Here is the core of my review, let's begin with the cons, as I will usually be doing, I prefer to keep the good things for the end.

THE CONS :

  • Anthony does include a gimmick but doesn't explain how to make it ! (nothing very hard, it's very easy to find by yourself) I would have liked that he made the gimmick with the same card he supplies.

  • This is a technique so don't expect to get it as smooth as him in less than 5 minutes. There is a little bit of work behind it.

THE PROS :

  • The price is fair considering the amount of explanations and subtleties you get. This is something that people should consider, you get more than a trick, you get a technique which will allow you to do multiple tricks.

  • It's fooling, Anthony did it to me live and I can tell you that this is worth learning. You might not be as good as him in the first few tries but when you get it down, you have an alternative to the gimmicked versions on the market.

  • You just need a deck ! (for the gimmickless version) which is very convenient when you forgot your gimmicked box at home ! Just fold a card in quarter and you're ready to go.

  • I like the fact the spectator can open the card himself, I do find that it adds something to the climax.

Overall rating : Fair priced and well taught, I think this is a technique every magician should know, maybe not using it everyday but knowing it could help you if you're out without your favorite card to box gimmick. 3.5/4 hearts.

As for the difficulty level, the technique will need a little bit of work before being well executed but I think it's worth learning it ! (It's not that hard after all) 3/5 stars.

Similar products : « Papperclipped » by Jay Sankey is, for me, one of the best way to do a similar type of effect without « gimmicks » ! The One 2.0 is a good way too. To each is own, both are very good.
