Review : "Wishbone" by Paul Harris and Bro Gilbert

wishbone.png

Product description : Two cofee stirrers are introduced and you get 2 spectators to sign both of them at the tip. You break the upper part of each stick and, in the hand of the spectator, the two signed ends magically link themselve so they are left with an impossible souvenir.

Price and where to buy it : This is sold at $34.95 and you can find it in nearly every Murphy's magic « partner » shop !

What you get : You get a little box with 40 gimmicks as well as a link for a downloadable instruction. Gimmicks are specially made for the trick and they feel quality. The download is easy to follow, straight and to the point, nothing bad to say about anything !

The pros and the cons : Here is the core of my review, let's begin with the cons, as I will usually be doing, I prefer to keep the good things for the end.

THE CONS :

  • You will need one gimmick per performance which means, with the gimmicks supplied in your package, you will only be able to do the trick 40 times and then, you will have to buy refills.

  • There is instruction in the video on how you could clearly show 2 stirrers and then go into the trick but I think it's not that hard to figure it out by yourself.

THE PROS :

  • This is organic magic at its best ! Just imagine you're at your local coffe shop and you just randomly take 2 stirrers and perform Wishbone, your audience will go nut !

  • We are very far from card tricks which seems to be boring for every magician, while it's not completely false, it's very cool to have a non card trick so you can blow your audience's mind with nothing but stirrers.

  • Gimmicks are very well made, they look like stirrers you can find everywhere so it's a good point, they are not very heavy and don't take that much space so you can have quite a few on you and be ready to perform the trick multiple times.

  • I think this has a lot of potential and you can come up with great routines using this gimmick in another way than the one taught on the DVD. It's one of the few products which spark your imagination.

  • You leave an impossible souvenir which is small enough to be put in a wallet so I really think people will keep this object and that it will be a discussion subject. It's like with a bent coin, it's an impossible piece which you keep and everytime you look at it, you are thinking « How could this is even possible?! »

Overall rating : I wasn't very excited when I saw the trailer but after having perform this for a few times, I think this is the trick which looks the most impromptu and which gets very strong reactions ! 4/4 hearts and a big recommandation from me.

As for the difficulty level, it's nearly self working, you can focus on your presentation, 1/5 stars.

Similar products : This is a unique routine, I've never seen anything like that before, bravo to Bro and Paul !

Thanks to Murphys Magic for sending me this product !
