Review : "The Cerberus Wallet" by Daniel Meadows

cerberus.png

Product description : A new wallet, a trifold one which will allow you to peek, switch, reveal informations, do an Out To Lunch routine and has enough space to be used as an everyday wallet ! Oh and I forgot to tell you it's the size of a pack of cards.

Price and where to buy it : This is sold at $139.95 and you can find it in nearly every Murphys partner (so you can get it at your favorite magic shop) as well as on the Magic World website ! (http://www.magicworld.co.uk/magic-shop/Cerberus-Wallet-Daniel-Meadows-magicworld.html)

What you get : You get a DVD filled with ideas more than routines (even if some are given to you) so that you are ready to use your wallet correctly. You also get a nicely made wallet, the leather smells and feels good, it has a very nice look and it's quite small.

The pros and the cons : Here is the core of my review, let's begin with the cons, as I will usually be doing, I prefer to keep the good things for the end.

THE CONS :

  • The price may be a step but when you watch at the quality, you can't go wrong. Plus Daniel has all the permissions to explain and use principle built in the wallet (which is not always the case in magic so it's good to see an honest creator !)

  • It doesn't have a card to wallet built in it. (You can do a folded card to wallet but it's not designed to) So you have to take into consideration this is a mentalism wallet more than a « magician » one.

  • The index is designed to hold 8 business cards. However, 6 would be better since if you want to put 8, 2 will be sticking out of the wallet. (You can fold those business cards but it will add some thickness to the whole thing)

THE PROS :

  • It's a small wallet which means it will fit in nearly every pocket you have (front and back ones as well as in your jacket). This size is perfect for taking it everywhere and be ready to perform some strong pieces of mentalism.

  • It is designed to hold 4 to 5 credit cards so that's enough (for me at least) and it can hold any currency, the compartment is wide enough to place all your bills. The Out To Lunch section can hold 10 to 15 business cards (more will make the wallet too thick) and I love the small touches that were put on the Out To Lunch, which was also the case on the Workers Dream wallet by Harry Robson, it makes everything safer.

  • There is only one peek designed in the wallet but 4 ways of doing it, one of which is very very clever, I really liked it ! There is one for each situation, surrounded, one on one and so on.

  • The leather is good, quality seems more than fine and the wallet feel sturdy and should last a long time with proper care (as all the good wallets on the market).

  • The DVD has some interesting ideas on it, the fact you can load and steal things in and out of the wallet is cool, however I may have liked a little bit more teaching or routines, you have to already have some routines prepared, this is not for a beginner in mentalism wallet if I can say that.

Overall rating : This wallet will, I think, be at the top of the mentalism wallet very quickly. For its size and what it can do, it will go in the repertoire of many working magicians but also amateurs. I really dig this one, I find it to be better, for my needs, than the SAW (which is considered by many to be the best mentalism wallet on the market). 4/4 hearts for me and a big recommandation (I use it as my everyday wallet now, so that's why I give it the highest mark)

As for the difficulty level, you have to have your own routines, not many are included in the DVD so be aware of that. However, Daniel does give you plenty of ressources (books and DVD) to find routines that could be achieved with th wallet, 3/5 stars.

Similar products : The SAW is the one which pops into my head at first since it would be the closest one to the Cerberus. Telethought Wallet could be a similar one too. All these are great, they just do different things so I encourage you to find your own needs so that you can choose which wallet to buy ;)
