Review : "Multitude" by Vincent Hedan

multitude.png

Product description : A gimmicked deck of cards which will allow you to perform at least 16 effects but with a little bit of imagination, you can come up with a lot of ideas ! So is it worth your consideration ? Let's find out !

Price and where to buy it : This is sold at $39.95 and you can find it in nearly every Murphy's partner shop !

What you get : You get a nice little cardboard box with a DVD inside as well as a gimmicked deck. There is enough cards in the gimmicked deck to make 2 Multitude decks. You will have to provide your own regular deck of cards ! So you're stuck to the bicycle design. Quality speaking, the cards are made by the USPCC so the best quality you would find. As for the DVD, it is very well shot but I wish Vincent spent a little more time explaining each routines. But you get an ebook with all the routines explained inside so it's a very nice addition.

The pros and the cons : Here is the core of my review, let's begin with the cons, as I will usually be doing, I prefer to keep the good things for the end.

THE CONS :

  • The deck can't be examined and can't be spread on the face. Well, it can but if you want to do so, you will have to destroy your « gimmicked » deck so you won't be able to perform any of the routines after. So I will only give it to examination if the spectators really want it.

  • Sometimes, the « spot » isn't very easy to find. I mean that it will not be easy to master, you will have to try and try again before getting the knack and getting it spot on every time.

  • I consider some of the routines to be filler, they're not as strong as others.

THE PROS :

  • It's a clever deck and Vincent does quote his inspirations which is always nice to have a little backstory of the effect. It's a mix of old and new.

  • You can perform a lot of effects with it and if you combine the deck with an advice which is given on the DVD, you will have a killer deck with even fairer routines.

  • The tricks you can do with the deck will fool layments but magicians as well. It's not that often you can say that, it's not a selling point but it's always nice to fool your mates at the club !

  • Considering the price and the quality of the props you get, the price isn't that expensive and I don't think you will be disappointed with Multitude.

  • I wish a forum or a Facebook page could be created so we could exchange ideas and new routines. It's nice to brainstorm with people and it's an evolving product which means new ideas will come with it.

  • You can handle it like a « real » deck so you can do riffle shuffle as well as cut or overhand shuffle with it.

Overall rating : A very nice gimmicked deck which will allow you to perform some really good tricks. Maybe not one I will use daily but I know I have it and maybe one day, I will get back to it. (I don't use mainly for the limitations of not being able to show it on the face). 3/4 hearts for me.

As for the difficulty level, you will have to get the knack down but it's fairly easy. Some of the effects are almost self-working, 2/5 stars.

Similar products : Well, apart from the reference Vincent gives you on the DVD, I don't know any similar decks.. I've not read a lot of books neither which may explain why I was not aware of this deck.

Thanks to Murphys Magic for sending me this product !
