Product description : This is a « new » effect which uses a white card, the smartphone of the spectator and some signatures. You take a picture of the signed white card with THEIR smartphone, they can see the white card on it and a few moment later, a card is printed on the picture, the card they chosed.
Price and where to buy it : This is sold at $34.95 and you can find it in nearly every Murphys partner (so you can get it at your favorite magic shop)
What you get : You get a well shot DVD, as usual with all Sansminds ones. It runs about 30 minutes and you get what you need to know, nothing less, nothing more. You are also provided with 2 gimmicks which are really well made and should last a long time if you take care of them.
The pros and the cons : Here is the core of my review, let's begin with the cons, as I will usually be doing, I prefer to keep the good things for the end.
THE CONS :
The add copy is VERY misleading since it is written that « The spectator thinks of a playing card » which is completely false ! They do not think of a card, they take one out of a pack which 2 things very different. I was quite disappointed when I watched the DVD and found that it was a chosen card.
You will have to consider your angles on this one, nobody can be on your side when you are taking the picture since they would understand the trick. You have to use audience management to tell everybody to go behind the card so that they will all be on the photo.
Some OS as the last iOS may be a problem for the trick. Not that people will notice anything or find anything that could ruin the method but still, they could find something which shouldn't be there. Maybe it's not a problem but I wanted to point it out.
THE PROS :
It's a very strong trick if you think about it. It's on the spectator phone, no app, no special ink or whatever, it's a real picture which can be taken with any smartphone.
It leaves people with an impossible souvenir they can show to their friends and family, I really think this could be a reputation maker if done correctly since people love having a « thing » like a bent coin or a signed card they can show around and say « he bent the coin with his hands » or « he made my cards appear on the picture on MY phone ».
Speaking about phone, think about the possibilities of booking you could get thanks to that photo. You have people sending you the photo and you have all their informations or they could publish it on your Facebook wall and you get more views. This is a really connected trick which can bring a lot of attention and get you some more gigs.
Overall rating : I quite liked the trick, not being a Sansminds fan, but the fact they lied in the add copy is very bad for me, I will only give this a 2,5/4 hearts because it's a good trick but unfortunately, they lied so it won't get more from me.
As for the difficulty, there are no complicated sleight or anything, 2/5 stars !
Similar products : The download from Asi Wind called « Double Exposure » is kind of the same premise but it doesn't require any gimmick, just a regular pack of card but you will need some skills.
