Review : "Gone" by Daniel Bryan

Product description : Ok guys, let's try to sum this up quickly : 5 cards are shown, you turn them face down except for one, this card face up vanishes completely and when you turn the others cards, there is now one letter per card saying G O N E ! It's pretty straight forward and can be done right out of the box ! Let's see if this is worth your money !

Price and where to buy it : This is sold at $12.75 and you can find it in nearly every Murphys Magic partner shop.

What you get : You get a small cardboard sleeve with only the special printed card inside. Instructions can be found online and as usual with Alakazam, they are very well produced and you get to learn everything. The quality of the cards is great, it seems like they're bicycle ! So pretty happy with what you receive.

The pros and the cons : Here is the core of my review, let's begin with the cons, as I will usually be doing, I prefer to keep the good things for the end.

THE CONS :

  • There is one display at the beginning which could lead to interrogations for your spectators. I get caught twice, maybe because of the light or the way I was handling the cards. You have to look convincing.

  • You're not clean at the end and I wouldn't put the gimmicked card in the hand of the spectator as Brian is doing.

  • It is only available in English.

THE PROS :

  • It's nearly self working, you just have to remember the construction of the routine but nothing complicated.

  • As I said, the material provided is great, the quality and teaching is great, the price is quite right too. For a little bit more than $20, you get a pretty well structured routine and some nice gaffed cards.

  • The reactions of this are amazing since everything seems very fair (well, until you kick them in the face with the final) and it made me think about ACE by Richard Sanders which is similar but different at the same time.

  • With a little bit of imagination, you could completely build another routine using those cards.

  • To enhance the fact those are « normal » cards, you can completely take them out of a regular pack, it does not seem that much but I guarantee you that your spectator will notice it. It is weird to go to a table with only 5 cards in your hand and begin the trick.

  • There is only 5 cards so it's very hard to carry them around, it doesn't take that much pocket space.

Overall rating : This is a solid routine which, with the proper presentation, will get amazing reactions. However, you only have the possibility to perform this in English, maybe some white card (so people could have written whatever they want) would have been a good idea. 3/4 hearts.

As for the difficulty level, no manipulations required, no skills too.. 1/5 stars !

Similar products : I do ACE by Richard Sanders all the time and the routine is similar to this. So if you want to turn 4 jokers into 4 aces in the hands of your spectator, you might want to check ACE out !

Thanks to Murphys Magic for sending me this product !
