Review : Bottled by Taiwan Ben

Product description : Cap in bottle is a stand-alone piece in many pros repertoire and for a good reason ! It has many plus of real magic : borrowed items, visual penetration, and a memorable souvenir for everyone. Taiwan Ben has produced a new item which allows you to make a plastic cap penetrate a plastic bottle, which can be borrowed if you want to and handed out for examination if you want too. It comes in 3 different versions, red, black and plain white (for water bottle). Let’s see if this is worth your money and if this is something you could use !

Price and where to buy it : This is sold at $34.95 and you can find it in nearly every Murphy's magic « partner » shop !

What you get : You get a small cardboard box, very nicely made, with shiny printing, very well designed and very well made ! Inside, you first discover a small piece of paper which specify that you shouldn’t play with the gimmick if you didn’t watch the explanation video, because you could break it. It’s written in many different languages so everyone can understand it. You also get a small piece of paper with the link for the explanation video, I would have like it to be printed on the box, I don’t like the fact I can lose the link. The video is well made so you can understand everything, they do teach you several versions, with or without difficulty. Finally, you get 2 caps, one of which is regular and the other is gimmicked. They look fairly identical so you can switch them in and out if you want them to be examined for example. For brand issue, the word written on it is “Cola-Coka”, but the typo is the same as the original brand so it’s not a real problem. The gimmick is really well made and should last a long time if you look after it. Overall, I’m happy with the gimmick because it’s not something I had expected and it works fine. I think it’s worth the asked price !

The pros and the cons : Here is the core of my review, let's begin with the cons, as I will usually be doing, I prefer to keep the good things for the end.

THE CONS :

[if !supportLists]– [endif]I was planning to use this with a 50 cL bottle, but unfortunately, the neck is too small to retrieve the gimmicked when it’s inside. So it’s large enough to fit the gimmick in but too small to retrieve it, so you have to cut open the bottle.

[if !supportLists]– [endif]You can’t give the bottle at end as a souvenir because you would leave them with the gimmick. But you can cut open the bottle if you want to switch the gimmick at the end.

THE PROS :

[if !supportLists]– [endif]This is a good and useful addition to the cap in bottle family, because it’s using a plastic bottle which I find to be more common than glass ones.

[if !supportLists]– [endif]The gimmick is very ingenious, simple at its best, and works as a treat. It’s easy to operate, and you can use almost any bottle with a red cap, as long as you don’t show the inscription on it.

[if !supportLists]– [endif]You can borrow a bottle of coke and do the effect right away as long as you have the gimmick on you, which is a really nice thing, especially if you do street magic, so your magic will feel a little bit more impromptu.

[if !supportLists]– [endif]There is no kind of magnet or PK ring, so no jewellery to wear, nothing to worry about if you’re having steel rings or wristband. You could do this naked, even if I don’t advise it to you !

[if !supportLists]– [endif]There is no modification to the bottle, no cut, no slit, nothing to modify, you can have it checked before and after the routine.

[if !supportLists]– [endif]The gimmick is very well produced, I’ve never seen something like this, I can’t imagine how hard it was to produce it.

[if !supportLists]– [endif]My main complaint was about the fact you have to cut open a bottle, but that’s if you want to show an empty bottle at the beginning. I find it to be stronger like that but you can reuse the same bottle if you want to, you just won’t be able to show it really empty.

Overall rating : I like this tool, I find it to be good and it works. But the fact you have to cut open the bottle (if you’re using a small one, you can remove the cap from a big bottle because it has a bigger neck) each time you’re performing it, I won’t use it, 3/4 hearts.

As for the difficulty level, this doesn’t require a lot of work but some time to master the gimmick and how to use it, I would say 2/5 stars.

Similar products : There is a million cap in bottle routine, from the classical one with a metal cap and a PK Ring, to something a little bit more elaborate, it’s up to you to decide.
